Love Letter to the Dead: retains its original title and its original lyrics. This was the subject of Aeon Abyss’ first live performance in 1991. Building from a sombre funeral march dominated by vocals describing a killer’s lament for his victims, the music burgeons into its own macabre elegy suggesting the author’s unspoken anxiety (much as Richard Wagner employed the use of leitmotifs to portray unvoiced sentiment).

Renting flesh with malevolent delight

Cold unseen hands
Broad and square
Demons of possession
To sear you everywhere
A narrow slither of silver
A yellow slit of eye
The dark silhouetted intruder
Will cut you and leave you to die

Murderer of the night
Shadows proceed from him
Festering insanity to kill on a whim
Ruthless slayer demon in human guise
Arbitrary assassin intent on your demise

Clouds part their jetted veil
Beyond the moon leers full
His face washed sickly
Featureless and dull
Your heart stops in your chest
The blade finds its mark
Raised knife fallen
Levelled in lethal arc

Heavy gout of blood
Venting vital red

Stalker’s instinct animates his soul
