Occidental Occultation: presents an impelled, martial rhythm with the song’s second half the mirror image rather than a mere reiteration of the first. Originally titled “War of Blood” when it represented the first of Aeons Abyss’ songs sung in a purely death metal style, the new lyrics also depict war, here of an emergent west, fighting for freedom from the imperial east. Rustic austerity fortifies obedience with personal liberty to overmatch the decadent power only to be corrupted by spoils of luxury and sophistication. The final scene is the reimagined speech of the Roman envoy to Carthage ushering the cataclysmic second Punic war.
